How did Subrata Roy become Saharashree? This was how the journey was from Lambretta scooter to plane.

Subrata Roy came from Araria in Bihar and became famous by the name of Saharashri in the entire country. The journey from selling namkeen on Lambretta scooter in the streets of Gorakhpur to Sahara Air Lines. Subrata Roy was born on June 10, 1948 in Araria, Bihar. Father's name is Sudhir Chandra Roy and mother's name is Chhavi. In search of employment, the Rai family shifted from Bihar to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Subrata Roy started living in Turkmanpur locality of Gorakhpur with his parents and siblings.He had his training from Holy Child School. Later he obtained a diploma in mechanical engineering from Gorakhpur. He had a love marriage with Swapna Rai. They have two sons, Shushanto Roy and Seemanto Roy. Subrata started his career by selling snacks of Jaya Products in Gorakhpur.

He used to sell namkeen packets on his Lambretta scooter in the streets of Gorakhpur. He laid the foundation of Sahara in Gorakhpur in 1978. Sahara, which started with barely five-six people, joined forces and within no time Subrata Roy Sahara became Saharashree. Sahara used to run many daily, monthly, quarterly, annual deposit investment plans.

Compared to fixed deposits and recurring deposits of other companies and banks, Sahara offered 3-4% more interest. Agents would come to people and collect money and add it to their passbooks. With high interest and ease of deposit, people immediately took to Sahara.

Subrata Roy Sahara's empire extended from Sahara India to finance, real estate, media and hospitality and many other sectors. Air Sahara airline was established in 1991. Aamby Valley Project was his dream project. At the same time, Sahara Group was also the sponsor of Team India.
