IPL 2024 SRH vs DC: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma lead Sunrisers to highest ever powerplay score

Playing against Delhi Capitals, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma led Sunrisers to highest ever powerplay score of 125 runs in the Indian Premier League 2024 at Delhi. Both the openers Head (89) and Abhishek Sharma (46) played explosive knocks for their team. In just six overs, both the openers have smashed a total of 11 sixes and 13 boundaries.

Looking at some data, Head, the Australian explosive batter, slammed the fastest half-century of the season off just 16 balls, equaling his opening partner Abhishek Sharma, who slammed 50 off 16 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI).

Apart from this, not only this is the highest powerplay scores in the IPL 2024, but of entire IPL tournament. Among other data, this is also the highest powerplay score in T20 cricket.

Earlier, the highest powerplay score in IPL was 105/0 by Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017. Chennai Super Kings follows the footsteps and had scored 100/2 against Punjab Kings in 2014. CSK's 90/0 against Mumbai Indians arrived in 2015. While this season, KKR had scored 88/1 against DC.

Individually, the highest scores in the powerplay for SRH in IPL belongs to Travis Head (84* in 26 balls) against DC on 20 April. David Warner had scored 62* in 25 deliveries against KKR in 2019. Again Travis Head scored 59* in 20 deliveries against MI in 2024 and Warner scored 59* runs un 23 balls against CSK in 2015.  However, only Suresh Raina (87 against PBKS) has scored more runs in powerplay than Travis Head.

Highest scores after first 10 overs in IPL:
Not only the powerplay, Sunrisers also broke the record for highest score after first 10 overs in IPL. SRH scored 158/4 against DC in Delhi on 20 April 2024, followed by 148/2, again by SRH against MI in Hyderabad in 2024. Even MI in reply posted 141/2 while chasing 278 against Sunrisers in Hyderabad. KKR had scored 135/1, while playing against DC at Vizag this year.

After winning the toss, DC skipper Rishabh Pant opted to bowl. Setting the tone of the match, Travis Head (89) and Abhishek Sharma (46) played explosive knocks. SRH have scored 184/4 in 13 overs. For Sunrisers, Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets, while Axar Patel took one.
