Australia ended Day 2 at 61 for 1 with a 62-run lead over India. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne stayed unbeaten on their respective scores of 39 and 14. Earlier, Axar Patel hit 74 runs and Virat Kohli scored 44 as India were bowled out for 262 runs. Australia, who had scored 263 after opting to bat on Friday, thus took a one-run first innings lead. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon claimed his 22nd five-wicket haul while Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann picked two wickets each. India had resumed at the score of 21 for 0 on Day 2
Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin’s 114-run stand that came in just 177 balls closed the gap between the two sides and ensured that Australia had just a one-run lead going into their second innings. The Australians then came out all guns blazing, with Travis Head’s promotion to the top of the order ahead of David Warner turning out to be a winning move for now. At the end of it all, Australia have a lead of 62. Head had scored 39 off 40 balls while Labuschagne is batting on 16 off 19.
